Senior management jobs in local authorities are becoming increasingly complex, requiring a new range of skills and competencies to ensure effective service delivery. To prepare a new breed of managers to meet the challenges of Comprehensive Performance Assessment and the 2005 e-government targets, a joint initiative by NLGN and IDeA is offering opportunities to refresh strategic and leadership thinking.
The Leadership Masterclasses – taking place during the summer and autumn – are primarily aimed at Chief Executives, Senior Managers and Directors who are looking to improve their leadership skills, manage change and transform their local authority.
Each masterclass will be based around a 2 day residency at a venue in central England – the first of which is being run on 28-29 August. Participants will use a new NLGN/IDeA report E-government and organisational transformation – lessons from Liverpool and Hertfordshire as primary source material.
Masterclasses will involve plenary sessions and workshops on the following themes:
- Identifying the Common Barriers to and Catalysts for Change
- Transformational Leadership
- Creating a Clear Vision and Strategy – Focusing on the Endgame
- Organisational and Cultural Change
- Looking for Wins
- How to create a Learning Culture
- Identifying and Benchmarking Innovation
- Customer Focus and the Importance of Consultation
- Strategic Business Partnerships and Affordability
- The Challenge Ahead – Helping to Deliver Locally
- Joining up – Creating a Strategic Plan
