Neighbourhood Governance and Management: Challenge or Opportunity for Local Government?

Cohesive and active communities are dependent upon local people having the skills, confidence and opportunities to contribute actively, as well as influence the policies and local services that affect their lives. Through duties on service provision and community consultation, and through schemes such as the Home Office’s Civic Pioneers Network, local government has been given the responsibility for delivering better and more extensive community decision-making.

Hosted by the New Local Government Network, the conference will consider how local government can work with neighbourhoods, exploring key issues such as: ‘What duty does local government have to deliver neighbourhood management?’, ‘Does neighbourhood governance represent a threat or opportunity for local democracy?’, and ‘How can neighbourhood management be used to shape local services and assess service performance?’.
