One day conference: ‘Schools Beyond the Classroom: Managing Collaboration for Social Inclusion’

January 27, 2004

Wednesday 4th February 2004 – Paragon Hotel, London, SW6Keynote address: Rt Hon Margaret Hodge MBE MP Minister of State for Children, Young People and Families, Department for Education and Skills

The Government has realised that problems inhibiting high standards in education are often greater than schools can address alone. As such there is a vital role to be played not just by central government and schools but also local authorities and other agencies in tackling factors that lead to underachievement. The recent publication of Schools Beyond the Classroom: Managing Collaboration and Social Inclusion, in which education policy analyst Liz Allen considers strategies to integrate social inclusion and education, has created new challenges for local authorities to provide quality education services.

Hosted by the New Local Government Network (NLGN), this one-day conference will hear from Children’s Minister Rt. Hon. Margaret Hodge MP, who will outline in detail the Government’s proposals for extended schools and children centres.
