Local Area Agreements 2006: Shaping Your Place

Keynote Speaker:
Phil Woolas MP, Minister for Local Government, Department for Communities and Local Government
John Healey MP, Financial Secretary, HM Treasury

HM Treasury, 1 Horse Guards Road, London SW1

Local Area Agreements represent a new settlement between local and central government and by April of next year all local authorities will have negotiated their agreement with government.

This one day national conference hosted by HM Treasury will look at how LAAs are moving forward. In particular, it will look at measures in the White Paper, which will set out the Government’s plans to develop the LAA structure further, as well as considering the implications of the 2007 Corporate Spending Review.

This annual conference will enable you to hear from the experts at the fore-front of local policy development on what lies ahead and how your authority can prepare, whilst minimising bureaucracy and maximising the benefits associated with LAAs.

Delegates will have the opportunity to learn from emerging best practice from phase one authorities. This will include instigating robust governance arrangements, ensuring efficiency gains and the minimisation of bureaucracy.
