LSPs Conference 2007: A New Era for Devolution

Thursday, 14th June 2007
The Brit Oval, London SE11

Ministerial Address
Phil Woolas MP
Minister for Local Government and Community Cohesion

“We have had a period of evolution, we are delivering devolution, now you need to get ready for the revolution”

(Phil Woolas, Minister for Local Government and Community Cohesion,
December 2006)

The challenge for local government today is to turn the White Paper proposals into reality and Local Strategic Partnerships will provide the forum for setting the strategic vision for an area, for capturing that vision in the Sustainable Community Strategy, and for agreeing priorities for improvement in the Local Area Agreement. The success of new localism and real devolution is dependent on strong local leadership and the involvement of communities in recognising and tackling local priorities.

Following the White Paper “Strong and Prosperous Communities” and the current Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Bill, this conference will reflect on decisions made and drive forward the agenda for advancing and developing the role of Local Strategic Partnerships.

Bringing together key stakeholders engaged in the delivery of local strategic partnerships, this core annual conference, now in its 6th year, attracts over 250 delegates and is a must attend event in the communities calendar.
