New NLGN Chair announced

June 1, 2007

The New Local Government Network (NLGN) today announced that it has appointed Iain Roxburgh as its Chair. Iain replaces Helen Randall who is stepping down after three years in post. Helen has decided to stand down in the light of increased work with her new role as the Head of Public Sector Commercial Department at Trowers & Hamlins.

Iain is currently a Senior Associate Fellow at Warwick Business School and Director of the Warwick University Local Authorities Research Consortium. He is a former Chief Executive of Coventry City Council and before that, Deputy Secretary of the AMA. He was advisor to the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit on Local Strategic Partnership development and has done research for the NLGN as well as being a member of the Board for some years.

Iain will Chair the NLGN Board.

Outgoing Chair Helen Randall said:

“I have been proud to Chair the NLGN Board for three very enjoyable years. In this time NLGN has helped to push the localist agenda higher up the political agenda and developed new and innovative solutions to delivering more efficient and responsive local services. I will continue to sit on the Board and look forward to watching NLGN grow from strength to strength”.

Iain Roxburgh said:

“I am delighted to be appointed Chair at such an exciting time for the organisation. We are entering a period of considerable political change and central to this process will be debates over decentralisation and devolution. I look forward to supporting the team at NLGN in being at the very heart of these discussions”.
