A Political Pile-Up? Is road charging realistic?
6.30pm, Tuesday 20th February 2007
Policy Exchange, Clutha House, 10 Storey’s Gate, London
Speakers:
Chris Grayling MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Transport
Cllr Matthew Offord, Deputy Leader, Barnet Council
Dick Sorabji, Deputy Director, NLGN
Chair: Ben Webster, Transport Correspondent, The Times
The Government has committed itself in principle to introducing a system of road pricing, a view backed up by the recent Eddington report on the future of transport. It is also keen to develop forms of congestion charging and road tolls. How will these changes impact on our ability to travel, particularly in areas with limited public transport? Will the measures disproportionately affect those on low income? Or will they help to reduce congestion and carbon emissions?
In a joint event organised by Policy Exchange and the New Local Government Network, we will address the likely impact of road charging – politically, economically and socially. We will be joined amongst others by Chris Grayling MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Transport.
Attendance is free but on a first come first served basis. To confirm attendance please contact monique.byer@nlgn.org.uk
