Planning policy remains one of the most crucial and yet controversial issues in local government. Councils are faced with balancing local development with environmental coniseration and the wishes of the local community.
To Government have made reform of the planning process a key part of its legislative programme for 2008. According to CLG, the Planning Reform Bill will streamline and improve planning, including introducing a single consents regime for major infrastructure projects, establishing an independent infrastructure planning commission and further measures to improve the town and country plannning system.
We are delighted to host a major policy speech by Caroline Flint MP, Minister for Housing, Communities and Local Government, who will be setting out further Government thoughts on reform of the planning process.
