Simon Parker is director of NLGN. He started his career in journalism and has since worked in management consultancy, lobbying and research, most recently as a fellow at the Institute for Government. Simon has published widely on public service reform in the UK and internationally.
Simon’s current work is focused on NLGN’s ongoing ‘Commission on Next Localism’, a result of the recent publication, ‘Next Localism: Five trends for the future of local government’. The Commission is a forum for those interested determining how local government can emerge from this period of cuts and austerity with an improved and more effective model for the sector.
The Commission incorporates six key strands of research and will bring together the most forward-thinking and innovative council leaders in the country to think beyond cuts towards a stable and improved local government settlement.
