Report Launch – The Future of Local Government and Public Health

Kindly funded by Sanofi Pasteur MSD

NLGN’s presents a free discussion to mark the launch of it’s latest major research report ‘The Future of Local Government and Public Health.’ It will feature a panel discussion made up of senior figures from local government, the health service and central government, including David Behan, the Director General of Social Care, Local Government and Care Partnerships at the Department of Health.

The report will provide an in-depth examination of the emerging role of health and wellbeing boards (HWBs). The development of HWBs gives councils a greater say in public health provision than they have had in a generation. Shadow boards are being created in the midst of a local government agenda that mixes austerity with major structural reform of some of our most critical local public services.

The project’s goal is to support the development of effective shadow boards as they prepare to go live in 2013. This report will provide a formative evaluation of HWBs, share early learning and best practice, and make policy and practice recommendations for ensuring the boards reach their full potential.
