NLGN’s welcomed local government leaders, executives and partner organisations to our Summer reception on Monday, hosted by Rt. Hon. Nick Raynsford MP on the Westminster terrace. Representatives from around the UK used the opportunity to meet MPs and Whitehall officials to gain clarity on aspects of the Government’s plans for the sector.

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the DCLG, Brandon Lewis MP, used the reception to reveal that the government was to launch a ‘rolling programme’ of Community Budgets at this month’s Spending Review while he urged the sector to apply the lessons of the Budget pilot sites.

Shadow Secretary of State for DCLG, Rt Hon. Hilary Benn, praised the sector’s capacity to innovative and adapt, and promised the forthcoming Labour policy review would offer greater freedoms for local authorities.

Simon Parker, Director of the NLGN, thanked all those who attended, stating “The NLGN summer reception is one of the most important events we all year, because it’s the single biggest gathering of our network of partners, friends and supporters. It’s an opportunity to say thank you to all the people who make NLGN possible.”

Delegates enjoyed the fine weather by the Thames, though seagulls proved to be unwelcome guests.
