The History Boys – what local government’s history can teach us today

NLGN is holding the launch of our new essay collection ‘the History Boys,’ at this year’s LGA Annual Conference. The reception features discussion of the essay themes from guest speakers and relaxed networking over drinks. All attendees will receive a copy of the collection. This event is being held at the Midland Hotel, a two minute walk from the conference centre.

Guest speakers include Rt. Hon. Hilary Benn MP, Shadow Secretary of State, Department for Communities and Local Government

The report’s looks at what contemporary local government policy makers can learn from their pre-WW2 predecessors. The History Boys collection examines a time when local government faced the lack of resources brought by the Great Depression and identifies how councils renewed city centres and created the health service through a combination of political will and innovative financial models. Contributors to the collection include Catherine Staite, Director, Inlogov, University of Birmingham and Sue Goss, Director, OPM.

If you would like to join us at the reception, please email rsvp@nlgn.org.uk Please note you do not have to be registered for the LGA conference in order to attend this reception.
