Housing is now at the forefront of the political agenda. The Government’s extension of ‘Right to Buy’ to housing association properties has been seen as controversial and unlikely to increase supply of new stock. New supply models for housing must be considered by all with a stake in the sector.

Brighton and Hove City Council’s announcement that they will be building 1000 new affordable homes in collaboration with a leading Housing Association is being touted as ‘the first of its kind in the country’ and could form a blueprint for future collaborative ventures.

At this high level roundtable we will hear from the Leader of Brighton and Hove City Council Councillor Warren Morgan as we to explore the way that a commercial partnership between councils and housing associations can work. We will consider questions such as:

  • How can organisations collaborate effectively to provide more homes and at greater cost efficiency?
  • Where would capital for such projects be sourced?
  • How could partners overcome potential barriers, such as constraints on space for new developments?
