Capital Spend, Social Value: Harnessing capital investment to reduce demand and improve communities

In association with:

City of London

While council revenue budgets creak under the strain of continued reductions, capital spending power has remained relatively stable since 2010. Some local authorities are using their capital spend to finance new commercial housing, major urban redevelopments, or local growth projects. But a bigger possibility exists to use investment strategies to reduce medium-term revenue budget pressures.

At this roundtable we will discuss how to seize upon this opportunity and explore how capital investment can be used to provide homes, help the elderly live independently, create new well-paid jobs and much more. This will feed in to our research on using capital spending to add long-term social value for councils and their communities whilst reducing financial pressure on their revenues.
