We are pleased announce the launch of our latest report offering practical steps on how councils can tackle recruitment and retention challenges to foster a happier, more productive workforce. At this event you will learn how councils can make themselves a more attractive workplace for the 21st century public servant.

Councils are increasingly facing difficulties in retaining and recruiting staff. Work cultures in the private sector are already radically changing in response to specific demands. This report will feature useful guidance on how councils can transform their own workforce practices to achieve better outcomes. We will look at several themes in the report including:

  • What motivates people to choose a career in local government and how this varies across regions.
  • Skills, experience, and qualities increasingly required for the local government workforce.
  • Emerging solutions to workforce challenges such as performance-related pay.

The report also includes case studies of councils which have successfully changed their employment processes. The launch will include a presentation of the report’s findings and contributions from key stakeholders including Andy Donald, Chief Executive, London Borough of Redbridge.
