NLGN & APSE are launching our report into localising employability support.
The Work Programme is only delivering employment for about 20% of clients. Jobcentre Plus provides a one-size fits all approach to employability support, and is often poorly integrated to other local services. Locally-led approaches offer a viable alternative to these underperforming centralised methods. The benefits of devolving employability support include:
- returning more people into work and reducing their dependence on public services.
- integrating the different parts of the skills and employability systems.
- ensuring better division of risk between local and central government.
This report shows how some councils are already leading on this front, and sets out a new deal between DWP, combined authorities, and councils to re-engineer an effective system. The launch will include a presentation of the report’s findings and recommendations, as well responses from key stakeholders.
Speakers for this event will include Cllr Sean Anstee, Leader, Trafford Council and Skills & Employment Lead, Greater Manchester Combined Authority; Stephen Gaskell, Head of Chief Executive’s Office, Southwark Council.
This is a great opportunity for networking and all attendees will receive a free hard copy of the report.
