NLGN is holding a breakfast about creating a new deal for the local government workforce.
A career in local government is no longer as secure as it once was. This creates a challenge to create a new employment bargain that excites and engages employees whilst still delivering efficient public services. Innovative solutions are urgently needed. Whether this comes in the form of more digital thinking or flexible working, NLGN would like to discuss these ideas further.
We will hear from Brendan Martin, Managing Director at Public World, who have partnered with Buurtzorg, the award-winning Dutch home-care model, to bring this system to the NHS. Buurtzorg has received international acclaim for giving its frontline nursing staff greater autonomy whilst also achieving improved patient care and cost effectiveness. Sarah Messenger, Head of Workforce for LGA will also be speaking.
Some of the questions we’ll ask at this high-level breakfast include:
- How are the most forward thinking public bodies in the UK and abroad already reframing their employment practices?
- How will the changing shape of local government impact different groups of employees, in different types of councils, in different parts of the country?
- What can local government learn from leading edge practice elsewhere in the economy?
This is a great opportunity for networking with peers over an intimate breakfast at the LGA conference’s main hotel, with stunning seaside views.
