In partnership with:
The Industrial Strategy: Building a Britain fit for the future established a clear commitment to a devolved approach to national economic strategy. In developing their approach, the four LEPS working together through the South West Rural Productivity Commission are increasingly focused on skills.
This roundtable will bring together key stakeholders from across the four LEP areas of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Dorset, Heart of the South West and Swindon and Wiltshire to explore how the South West can build on current drivers for increased skills and employment in the region, thus ensuring it has the pipelines it needs.
In the context of the Industrial Strategy, we will consider current challenges and opportunities to boosting productivity in the South West. Questions for discussion include:
- How can we encourage collaboration between LEPs, local FE colleges, HE providers and private institutions to create further opportunities for those looking to enter the job market?
- In what ways can we support the self-employed and small businesses to become more resilient and profitable?
- How can we close the productivity gap between urban and rural areas, including managing skills shortages in the rural economy following Brexit?
