The Total Place pilots are due to submit their final report shortly and there seems to be a positive attitude towards a more integrated ‘whole area’ approach. There is much speculation about the potential savings achievable if the intentions of the ‘Total Place’ programme are viable. The concept is a strong one: rather than see individual agencies or local authorities structure their expenditure in silos, a strategic approach to the deployment of total local spending could yield big savings and improve outcomes for citizens. For us the key question is not only what could be achieved but how it can be achieved.
This NLGN report intends to set out the steps necessary for the delivery of truly integrated place-based decision-making. Join us to hear our key recommendations and to hear from our invited guest speakers.

This will be an in-depth and interactive learning event that will serve as the ideal forum for discussing the issues and challenges currently facing local authorities, primary care trusts and schools, in relation to safeguarding and children’s services.
Key questions to be addressed, through thought-provoking presentations, discussions and case studies include:
• What is the difference between safeguarding and children’s services and where is the line drawn when getting involved?
• Are Serious Case Reviews really the best ways to promote and monitor learning? What will the implications be if the findings are fully published?
• What level of risk to a child is acceptable and how can this be assessed?
Confirmed conference speakers include:
Tim Loughton MP, Shadow Minister for Children and Young People
Wes Cuell, Acting Chief Executive and Director of Services of Children and Young People, NSPCC
Chris Batty, HMI, Ofsted
Sheila Fish, Research Analyst, Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE)
